Whp a distance, the movie business might look pretty glamorous. Celebrities and producers glide down red carpets, clutch their Oscars and vacation in St. Barts…just because they. The public can be fickle, mqkes industry is in flux, and just about any movie is an extremely risky investment, even a film starring big name actors and actresses. Major studios and indie filmmakers alike now spend much of their days looking for new sources of maeks, because ticket sales are no longer the be-all and whk for films. This is in part because it costs far more to make and market a film than it. Romantic who makes money from movies or some children’s films need to promote themselves via TV commercials and media advertisements, and those costs add up quickly. For any type of film, whether a blockbuster or an indie production, things like tax incentives and revenues from product placements can help pay down the budget. If they’re given an incentive to shoot a film in Canada or Louisiana or Georgia, producers will usually hustle to do so. Still, there are a few tried and true ways that films can attempt to make money.

Joined: Jun 27, Posts: 2, Most of this forum is about games. But you could use Unity to make animated movies or even edit live action movies. I mean after you spent a year making your one hour movie.
What could you do? Or put it on Steam where people don’t really buy movies. Who buys independent movies anyway? Not many people. The other option would be to make a series and make an episode a week and hope you get a following on YouTube or a Patreon but even then that’s not going to cover your costs probably.
What do you think? Is there any chance of making money from independent movies? But only about 30 movies have ever grossed a billion dollars and they had multi-million dollar budgets. Joined: Jun 1, Posts: 2, I wouldn’t use Unity. Make very cheap animations with Adobe and put em on youtube.

Lurking-NinjaMar 28, Joined: Dec 5, Posts: 16, Unity is a real time rendering engine. This means its not the best tool for making the final cut of a movie. It will be beaten hands down by any tool specifically designed for movies.
Its simply impossible for an engine that spends 0. That said, Unity has a couple of capacities that make it especially useful as part of the movie pipeline. It allows motion capture data from multiple sources to be integrated in real time. You could combine this with VR to let motion capture actors actually experience the scene as they act. As to money, movies are a creative industry just like the rest.
You can make money as an indie. But its hard work. KiwasiMar 28, Joined: May 8, Posts: 7, Some places like the Cartoon Network have open open submissions for animated pitches from time to time. Entering them gives you a chance for having a series or short developed.

It always strikes me as the wrong way round when I see content creation platforms saying «We have built this thing which makes X and now we are we just need people to make content for it. In that it should be the artists saying, «I have this vision. I need you content platforms to create the technology for my vision. The other way round it just feels like the artist is working for the technology company.
Which doesn’t fit well with my perception of what art is supposed to be. That’s just my instincts. I hate the word «content» too to describe an artistic endeavour. And with some of the recent additions to the engine, it’s becoming a stronger tool for these purposes all the time. The problem is that a lot of people focus solely on pre-rendered feature-length films when they think of the word «movie.
Not only are there plenty of other applications, but even feature-length films can benefit from the kind of development environment that Unity provides. One of the most obvious applications is animatics, and many companies use game engines for this. For a final pass on a feature-length film, you may indeed want next-level pre-rendering on a server farm. But for the prototype phase, iteration speed is far more important than rendering quality.
Being able to play around with lighting, camera angles, and different cuts, and see the results immediately, is a huge advantage. This is where an engine like Unity shines. Instead of having to wait until a trial sequence finishes rendering to see the results, you can slap the play button in the Unity editor and have a decent idea of the changes you made right then and. And then of course there is recycling. This doesn’t happen as often in feature-length films.
It’s a practice that is strongly looked down on in that format. But for short-form animation and TV serialized storytelling, it’s almost a given. Recycled animation, backgrounds, sets, and characters are a huge boon for tv shows and web-animated series.
And the lowered expectations for those formats make a machinima-style approach much more feasible. RichardKainMar 28, Another thing is why are all the Unity promo movies silent as in non-speaking? No-one goes to see silent movies these days.
Is it just because Unity hasn’t figured out how to do proper lip-syncing yet? It could easily be done with blend-shapes.

As far as using Unity for making movies or short videos, I think it has its advantages and disadvantages. It isn’t going to be capable of the explosion eye candy awesomeness of a Michael Bay Transformers movie though it should be easy to create a better storylinebut that type of movie employs thousands of people to get it. I could certainly see a relatively small team putting together some pretty good work with Unity, and leveraging typical game features such as the physics engine, animation system, and easy particle system so simplify the process and put together a decent web series.
Stuff like timeline seems ready made for this purpose. Joe-CensoredMar 28, Book of the Dead has some dialog in English. IppokratisMar 29, It’s worth pointing out that a lot of the features that seem to be under scrutiny are very much not game-focused. Most of these features are extras that are only really applicable to the production of movies, and not to active gameplay.
The only reason why Unity has been incorporating a few new movie-focused features like the Cinemachine camera system is because these elements can be repurposed for games, and they are useful for in-engine cut-scenes. Most of Unity development focuses on game play elements, various rendering effects, and interface tools.
Hollywood accounting also known as Hollywood bookkeeping refers to the opaque or creative accounting methods used by the film, video, and television industry to budget and record profits for film projects. Expenditures can be inflated to reduce or eliminate the reported profit of the project, thereby reducing the amount which the corporation must pay in taxes and royalties or other profit-sharing agreementsas these are based on the net profit. Hollywood accounting gets its name from its frpm in the entertainment industry—that is, in the movie moviez of Hollywood at a time when most studios were located in Hollywood.
The Actual Ways Through Which Movie Industry Makes Money!
Those affected can include writers and majes, but also production companies, producers and investors. Hollywood accounting can take several forms. In one form, a subsidiary is formed to perform a given activity and the parent entity will extract money out of the film’s revenue in the form of charges for certain «services». For example, a film studio has a makss arm as a sub-entity, which will then charge the studio a «distribution fee» — essentially, the studio charging itself a sum it has total control over and hence control the profitability report of a project. Another form of Hollywood mooney is a reverse Tobashi schemein which the studio unjustly cross-collateralizes the accounting of two projects and shifts losses from a flop onto a profitable project by shifting costs involving internal operations.
