It takes millions of dollars to make the game, for the publicity, for the shelf space in stores, for supplies to make the disk, case, cover art.

There’s also the rent for the studio, worker’s pay. That’s in the hundreds of millions. That’s it. It tends to be tedious work and the truth is, there’re plenty of computer programmers in this world, and it’s not that hard to learn, so many people know how to do it.

It’s not as valuable. Also, a lot of the heavy work can be outsourced. A group of people in China can do all of the work, and then the lead programmers in America and Japan can do the designing and stuff.

In other words, there aren’t that many opportunities for making lots of money, but if you like games, then you can always try it. Also, the gaming industry is like the movie industry, in that you’re working for like 2 years, and then you have to find another project to work on. It’s always changing, but it also means the industry is constantly changing. It’s not as stable, as say a job that just stays in one place and you do the same thing.

You have to be prepared to change your routine. Because so many go to be video game developers. Jobs follow supply and demand same as anything else; when you have a lot of people in a field you can pay them less because they just want the job.

My guess would be that they have so many applications into those jobs and that they realize most people do it because they want to have fun and be part of a «legendary» videogame.
